1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Liahona Path (“App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our iOS app.
Liahona Path is an independent Book of Mormon study companion. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Summary
-
We do not sell your personal information.
-
We do not share your study content (notes, bookmarks, highlights, journals, or growth logs) with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties for their own purposes.
-
We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the App.
-
Your study data is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your personal iCloud account through Apple’s services.
-
Scripture reading is free. Optional narration purchases are handled by Apple (App Store).
-
Offline narration uses audio files included in or downloaded with the App; it does not send your reading text to us or to speech providers while you listen to those pre-generated files.
-
We do not operate a separate login or account system.
This summary is meant to be clear and simple; the sections below provide more detail.
3. Information stored in the App
Depending on how you use the App, the following may be stored on your device (and in your iCloud account if you use iCloud sync):
-
Verse notes and journal-style reflections
-
Bookmarks and verse highlights
-
Sacred Board items
-
Study plan progress
-
Spiritual rhythm data you choose to log (study minutes, streaks, prayer streaks, temple visits, etc.)
-
Preferences (theme, fonts, accessibility, narration settings, favorites, last reading position)
-
Purchase status for the optional narration library (after Apple verifies your purchase)
You control this content. We use it only to provide App features.
4. What we collect from you directly
We do not require you to create an account with us. We do not ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the App.
If you email us for support, we receive whatever you choose to send (e.g., your email address and message). We use that only to respond and keep reasonable support records.
5. iCloud (optional)
If you are signed in to iCloud, the App can sync some data through Apple, including:
-
CloudKit (identifier: iCloud.com.garycox.liahonapath) for notes, bookmarks, highlights, and board items
-
iCloud Key-Value storage for study-plan and spiritual-growth sync data
That data stays in your iCloud account and is protected by Apple. We do not have a separate copy of your iCloud data on our own servers. Apple’s privacy policy applies: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
If iCloud is unavailable, data remains on your device (or, in rare error cases, only in temporary memory until the App closes).
6. Notifications (optional)
If you turn on Sacred Reminders, the App may ask for permission to show local notifications on your device. Reminders are scheduled on your device. We do not use them to collect data for advertising.
You can turn them off in the App or in iOS Settings.
7. Purchases
Optional in-app purchases (such as the full narration library) are processed by Apple. We do not receive your payment card number. Apple provides us only what is needed to confirm that you unlocked the purchase (entitlement status).
8. Narration and audio
-
Default experience: Spoken scripture uses pre-generated offline audio (Steffan voice) stored in the App or downloaded via Apple On-Demand Resources. Playing that audio does not send verse text from your device to us or to a speech service for live synthesis.
-
When a pack is not available: The App may read aloud using on-device text-to-speech built into iOS. That processing happens on your device through Apple’s system voices.
-
Development note: Offline audio files were produced using Microsoft Azure Speech during content creation. End users are not asked to connect their own speech accounts or choose speech providers in the App.
9. Scripture text
The App includes or downloads Book of Mormon text for offline reading. A network connection may be used once to download or update scripture data, which is then cached on your device. We do not use that process to build a profile of you or to share your study notes with anyone.
10. What we do not do
We do not:
-
Sell personal information
-
Share your study content with third parties for advertising or marketing
-
Use Firebase, Facebook, or similar analytics/ad networks in the App
-
Collect precise location, contacts, photos, or microphone recordings for App features
-
Let users sign in to a developer-operated social or cloud account
11. Limited disclosures
We may disclose information only if:
-
Required by law (e.g., valid legal process), or
-
Necessary to protect rights, safety, or security, or
-
You direct us (e.g., in a support email you send).
We do not otherwise disclose your personal study data to third parties.
Apple processes App Store distribution, payments, iCloud (if you use it), and on-device platform services as described in Apple’s policies—not as a “sale” or “sharing” of your study content by us for third-party marketing.
12. Data retention and deletion
-
On device: Until you delete items in the App, use “Delete all study data” in Settings, or uninstall the App.
-
iCloud: Until you remove data from iCloud or your Apple account per Apple’s tools.
-
Support emails: As long as needed to help you and for reasonable record-keeping.
13. Your choices
-
Delete study data in Settings
-
Reset streaks and logged minutes separately
-
Turn off notifications
-
Disable iCloud or remove the App via iOS Settings
-
Uninstall the App to remove local data
For privacy rights requests (where applicable), contact us at [your privacy email].
14. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information to us.
15. Security
We rely on reasonable measures and on Apple’s platform security (including device encryption and iCloud, when enabled). No system is perfectly secure; keep your device and Apple ID protected.
16. International users
If you use the App outside the United States, your data may still be processed on your device and, if you use iCloud, in locations Apple uses to provide iCloud. Apple’s terms and privacy policy apply to iCloud.
17. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
